A Watery Full Moon

Written by Claire Montanaro.

In Australia the moon is full as I write, while for others of us the climax of this cycle will occur a few hours from now. Whenever and however you experience it, it will be significant as every full moon this year will be; today it is because of water.

The moon in Aquarius is about our capacity to feel and to be of and with Spirit. As such it is all about heart, compassion and the wise understanding to recognise when Spirit is calling to us to wake up to the reality of being human and why we are human now, to be reminded of our purpose and service and of our place in the world of Spirit. The symbol of Spirit is water and so it is for our emotions too - water the link, today, between how we feel and how we are as soul beings, for how can we be spiritual unless we feel?

There is a difference between the feeling of unconditional love and compassion which is the essence of being spiritual, and feeling emotional. The former comes from the heart and has an aspect of objective wisdom about it, while our emotions come from the mind, ego, and originate from fear. In their own way too emotions benefit the soul for they are an opportunity to learn and grow, to heal karma and so accumulate more of the light which is essential to the well-being of our soul.

On this day of a watery, Aquarian Full Moon, there are reminders everywhere of its meaning, from the emotional and physical conflicts in the Arab world and elsewhere, to the floods in Australia and the snows and frosts which cover swathes of our lands.  It is a day to remember what it means for each of us, how far we are caught up in our own world of feelings and what those feelings are. My intention today, too, is to honour ritually the Spirit of Water with water, to give thanks for what is and what it does, a reminder to myself and all that lies beyond that I am, perhaps, a little bit awake.
