Symbolism

Even though the new year is only six weeks old, it has been remarkable for the number of breakdowns that have occurred here where I live. The electrics on the car failed (the car has been replaced); the borehole has stopped working; the fairly new oil tank developed holes and sags and has been replaced; the fridge freezer  has died as has the chainsaw; and of course I broke my arm. There have been other inconveniences besides, but you have a flavour of what has been occurring!

I mention this pattern that I have been experiencing because I suspect it may have been happening to a number of other people.  It is all about breaking with the past and getting our house in order, identifying what we need for our comfort and survival and what we can do without, tying up loose ends and ensuring everything is working perfectly, ready for what is to come.

In particular, the symbolism of what needs to be addressed is a reminder, perhaps, of what is important for each of us at this time.  For me it is about balance, flow, obselescence and moving forward smoothly, though for others with similar experiences the meaning may be quite different.    My fridge freezer, for example, was old and I do not need another one.  I will value the space its removal will give. By contrast, a friend in the village whose freezer broke at the same time, who loves to cook and entertain, has been given the opportunity to replace hers with a bigger model, which she is thrilled about!

Everywhere we look, everything we experience, has some element of a symbolic message for us.  Sometimes it is very prominent indeed, to ensure we don't miss what we need to know and reflect upon. Sometimes it needs to be painful, as I have found out - again!
