The Spiritual Authority of Nature

Written by Claire Montanaro.

As the new era begins to exert its spiritual authority, nature is responding in remarkable ways. I am talking not just of climate change, which is affecting the migratory patterns of birds and animals quite significantly, but also of the unexpected and inexplicable demonstrations of the transcendental power of nature being experienced now.

I was given direct experience of the new natural phenomena last night: I had an early start in the morning, and was awake at 4 and about to get up when a sound like a great roar from outside shocked me fully alert.  It was something I had never heard before and the words "heaven rent asunder" came to me. It lasted for several seconds, enough time for me to listen to it, very conscious, and to try to identify what it was with my mind and human knowledge - but because it was so unusual it was unidentifiable: not thunder, though it was not dissimilar, not a close aeroplane, though there were similarities, certainly not wind nor the voice of the river nearby.

As I listened the roar ceased and in that moment rain began to fall, drumming and thundering down around my home in a way that was more savage, relentless, than I can ever remember hearing before.  Its strength was such, following the heavenly roar with which the torrent must have been connected, that I wondered if it would be safe for me to travel as I intended and also what would be seen when the light came up.
I got up and opened the window, seeing only pounding rain beyond in extraordinary volume. With a sense of unreality I dressed, and by the time I came downstairs the tempest had lessened, and when I left the house it had almost stopped. All seemed calm though very wet, and I noticed that less than ten miles away the roads were dry indicating that this (for me) remarkable event was localised to the area around my small village in the Cambrian Mountains.

I am sure I will hear the supernatural roar and rain again, and next time it may indeed confine me to my home area through its insistent power, and it may be heard and felt much further afield. Anyone hearing what I, and others, did last night, will look at nature without the assumption of normality from now on, and with an expectation, perhaps, of more truly extraordinary events to come one day.
