stars and spiritual humour

My Commentary yesterday on the power, beauty and significance of the stars and planets resulted in a number of private comments to me about how apposite the words were for some of you.   For me, this was summed up when I received a round-robin e-mail today about nutrition from someone I hardly know, at the end of which she wrote:

"Look at the Stars

Ralph Waldo Emerson once asked what we would do if the stars only came out every thousand years.  No-one would sleep that night, we would be ecstatic, delirious, made rapturous by the glory of God.  Instead, the stars come out every night and we watch television."

While the point is serious, I have a sense someone up there is laughing!
