Everyday Matters

Written by Claire Montanaro.

There is an eery sense of unreality abroad in the world today. Nature is still, expectantly so, and for most of us life goes on with a semblance of normality.

I wrote on Saturday about illusion, and yesterday’s new moon has triggered new, more fractious energies in this regard which may be manifesting in you as tension or depletion, headaches or unease, or general lack of clarity. My astrological friends tell me that several major planets are shifting today which contributes to the discordance within and without, and, of course, Mercury is retrograde for another three weeks, perpetuating confusion and misunderstanding.

At times such as these it is particularly important to try to maintain a sense of balance and perspective, and not to get caught up in the dramas of life and death, chaos and uncertainty which come with planetary change. It helps, I find, to be as focused as possible on the everyday aspects of our lives, appreciating a child’s smile or touch, the light of the sun, the aroma of a cup of coffee, birdsong in the garden, good friendship. By so doing, we are getting beneath the external distractions and re-connecting with the truth of who we are in soul and essence in a way that is simple, loving and accepting, and nothing negative can disturb us.

As usual, Claire, you are reminding us that the only time is NOW. I have been pondering on this for the last few days, as I try to live in the moment as it acutally happens.
But I wonder what would happen if that is all we did.
Would we become like Squirrel Nutkin, without a thought of providing for the future? Would it even matter? Maybe we would find abundance just came to us? However, I cant help feeling that we still have to help abundance on its way, which essentially means looking and planning a little into the future.
I cant figure this out, and will go on pondering.

Dear Claire
Thank you again for this timely reminder to refocus on the simple wonders of life. You have described my recent agitated state so clearly that it appears that you had been residing in my head for the last few days! It has been just as you said-an emotional roller coaster which just gathered momentum as I bounced off those I am closest to. It always amuses me, how a change to a downward spiral can be initiated quite quickly, when certain 'other' forces are identified as contributing to the challenging times.

It helps to hear that others are being affected similarly. This doesn't mean that we abdicate responsibility for our actions and thoughts as it is always our choice as to how we respond to circumstances, but it does allow a breath of fresh air to come in and a breathing space to develop in which the emotional turmoil is dissipated and we come to our senses. In fact, conscious breath work can actually help to ground ourselves in the 'now', so that we are able to hear all our voices, and make better choices in all that we do and think.

With love and gratitude
Marta
