Signposts and Reminders in Japan

Written by Claire Montanaro.

Even though I did not have the time to write a blog on my website yesterday, my thoughts were very much with Japan, and beyond.

By way of compensation I put up a tweet on Twitter making reference to the power of nature being demonstrated once again, this time in Japan, and how we can help. Some people responded with understanding, while one tweeter sent an unprintable but graphic reply rejecting totally the idea that Gaia is, ultimately, in charge of world events and outcomes.

I found his (for it was a man!) defensive and immediate reaction very interesting as an example of what was, for me, denial and non-acceptance of what is fact. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and it may be he was feeling powerless, shocked and angry, but I wondered what more it would take to enable him to recognise that whatever protective measure we take, we cannot prevent the planet demonstrating her strength through earth-changing activity at the time of her choosing. This is a time of great natural events, and we have seen significant examples of floods, fire and earthquakes in just a few months already, and there will be more to come.

While many people recognise that nature is stronger than man, most do not see that these eruptions have deeper implications: that they are Gaia’s reaction to centuries of abuse; that they bring reminders and opportunities; that every person affected is so intentionally; and that the earth movements are a prelude to her, and our, ascension. It would be such a pity if, through what we are witnessing, we began to fear nature rather than embracing her for the gifts she brings now and to come.

Dear Claire
Thank you for your post, I was looking forward to it, as this planetary earthquake has 'shaken' all of us. I totally understand you about the tweet: Many people do see these natural disasters, as the response of a living Gaia, but many others adopt the purely ‘scientific’ approach and quite defensively so! Working in science, I see this all the time: nature is treated as a compound of mechanistic processes, which, can always be neatly explained and explored by man’s scientific enquiry. So, the earthquake is interpreted as a random out-lash of stored energy at the seam of colliding tectonic plates and that is all there is to it. I find this one-dimensional ‘man-know-it-all’ approach a little arrogant on behalf of mankind. There are huge teachings in this situation: the most technologically advanced state, certainly in anti-seismic construction, could not prevent major damages. And huge warnings too about the ‘safety’ of nuclear energy. Please, don’t be discouraged by impolite responses... This new way of seeing things can feel threatening to the old way of thinking, where man and his science are in control of everything…Much love, Victoria xxxx

Sweet Claire, thank you for sharing your thoughts and this incident. I've also been coming across some who react with fear and aggression when it's suggested that Mother Earth is a sentient being and alive in her own right, and not a toy of mankind. Behind these reactions, I mostly sense fear of the unknown, a disconnection from the nurturing mother energies, a grieving over some unknown deep loss that's been masked with rational scientific explanations that satisfy the mind but not the heart. I have great compassion and love for these ones, their path and learning is not easy and they are great teachers for me. Meanwhile I marvel at how so many people around me have become aware of their special relationship with Mother Earth and see them returning (remembering) how to bring more harmony to this relationship and how to honour her gifts, often without following a specific spiritual path. And the Mother feels and knows every single one and every single thought and responds! Very beautiful to observe. And the outpouring of love, compassion and prayers to Japan in light of the earthquake and its repercussions is quite awesome ..another level of integration of the Divine Feminine and rebalancing with the Divine Masculine. We're living in extraordinary times and my heart is full of joy and hope! Love & Blessings Jx
