The Breath of God
God’s breath is visible everywhere we look, in the movement of the clouds, the swaying of the trees, the flight of birds.
Sometimes on a still day it is so gentle it is hardly noticeable, and the only reminder of its universality is the movement of our own constant breathing. At other times it makes its presence known unmissably, and today is such a day. It is a wild day here in mid-Wales, great gusts of wind creating waves on the ponds and river before me, leftover autumn leaves swirling around the spring growth and even the kites are struggling to make headway in the skies. It is beautiful. When the breath of God is felt so strongly, there are messages for us. They are more than reminders about purification and change and the power of nature: they tell us also to remember the ubiquity of that divine energy which is our source and our goal, which is what we are and which is all around us.
If the wind blows upon you today, you may wish to notice it for what it is, and give thanks. We have so much to be grateful for.

... I woke today remembering a gorgeous school hymn, "Spirit of God in the clear running water" -- and felt it was perfectly echoed in your very first line. |
