Special Souls in Tucson
An event like the Tucson shootings is so shocking it can be hard not to blame and judge what happened, seeing it in terms of black and white, right and wrong, good and bad, even innocence and evil.
I hear, yesterday, the mother of the nine year old girl who died speaking of what happened. Only hours after losing her daughter, she spoke gently of how this was a tragedy for everybody including the young man who had caused her loss, of her hope that these events might result in greater awareness and help for those who were mentally disturbed, and of her gratitude for the blessing of the nine wonderful years she had shared with her beautiful child. There was no blame, no anger, no thought for herself, just compassion and acceptance, and great dignity.
There is much for us all to learn from Roxanna Green. She did not say so, but I sense Christina, born on 11th September 2011, is a very special soul, and that her mother, surely, is too.
