Simplicity at Christmas

Whatever the truth of the Christmas story, this time of year is always special for me as so many hearts are filled with the wish to celebrate, to give, to come together often in family or spiritual ritual.

The day that we have chosen to mark the birthday one of the most iconic figures who ever lived, accurate or not, is charged with its own unique and special energy. For those people who grieve or fear or suffer at this time, their emotions may be exacerbated by the expectation that this should be a day of joy, but for them it is not. Let us not forget them. If you are among them, for one moment allow your heart to open and feel the love around you, embracing you from many levels including from your beingness.

My Christmases are always simple, but this Christmas is remarkable for its invisibility. The heavy snows have prevented me from receiving or sending mail, from shopping and from seeing friends, and so many of the usual festive trappings have been replaced by a reality of silence, stillness, physical isolation and great beauty. It is wonderful, and, for me, a perfect way to celebrate what is important - life, renewal, nature, the new replacing the old, the significance of being on Earth at this time, the rebirth of the Christ Consciousness.
