The US Elections Leading the Way

Written by Claire Montanaro.

One thing that is certain about today's mid-term elections in the US is that political disarray will continue, whatever the apparent outcome - and necessarily so.

The influence of the Fourth Ray upon Earth is becoming stronger almost by the day, and evidence of this breaking down of old ways of conduct and belief is visible in the impotence of current military conflicts, the growth of terrorist and cyber-conflict, divisions within churches, a teetering financial system and a planet which is flexing its muscles to remind us periodically of her power over us.

In many ways America is leading the way in demonstrating the hollowness of an outdated political system based on democratic principles which often have been distorted, forgotten or abused. The elections have brought to a head legitimate concerns about the power of the state, about fairness, about balance, equity, kindness, race, taxes, money, welfare, corruption, political power, the electoral system itself. The Tea Party Movement, whatever its strengths and weaknesses,  has highlighted and polarised these issues and acted as a catalyst for expression of discontent particularly emerging as it has done at a time of economic and social fragility. Change of some sort and to some degree is inevitable and is to be welcomed, painful though it may feel at the time, in order to bring about harmony.

All "democratic" countries will face similar tests soon, and there will be a global shift towards transparency, decency and simplicity. Meanwhile, the political upheavals facing Americans will continue for some little time yet as this great country finds its way back to the first principles on which it was founded, but in a way that anticipates and embraces the new era for the planet.

The world is right to watch what is happening in the US with attention, for it brings lessons and indicators for us all.

Dear Claire
Living in the States, I have witnessed my fair share of the lead up to the mid-term elections. The electioneering and advertising has hit rock bottom: for the States, that is saying something!

I just wanted to let you know that there have been a few rallies recently to 'Restore Sanity and/or Fear' spearheaded by Comedy Central's Jon Stewart (whose Daily Show is well worth watching on a free web site called HULU) and Steve Colbert (also on Hulu). Hopefully this is a taste of things to come-restoring sanity, not the fear. It will be interesting to see what other grass roots movements will spring up. I am trusting that the general discontent will act as a catalyst to encourage people and communities to become more informed before getting energised and thus to create change we can all be proud of.
With love and gratitude
Marta
