A sad day for Hungary
Please spare a thought for Hungary today.
Devastating and lethal toxic waste from an aluminium plant has broken through a restraining dam and is pouring through land and villages now, entering water tributories to the Danube and threatening the Danube itself. Wherever the red sludge goes, serious contamination follows, and already homes and land are ruined, people have died and the clean waters yesterday filled with wildlife now are discoloured and dead.
In the summer, the waters of the Gulf of Mexico were pollluted by oil, and now it is another sort of pollution. The official cause of this second toxic spill is not yet known, but it should have been preventable - just as the BP spill should also. Hungary is a part of the EU now, and there are strict rules applying to the control and management of toxic waste. Let us hope that, from this tragedy, there is greater scrutiny of compliance in this area and measures are taken to ensure this kind of an incident can never happen again. Because, this time, humans have died, more notice may at last be taken of the environmental needs of our beautiful planet, and the responsibility we have for them.
Meanwhile, my heart and prayers go out to the place, people, and natural world which suffers in Hungary, and countries beyond, as a result of this sad event. Will you join me?

... Dear Claire Thank you for the comment and invitation about Hungary, I will join! Meanwhile, I have written a petition about the prospect of oil drilling in the Arctic, which you discussed a few days ago. If anyone wishes to sign, it is at: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/no-oil-drilling-in-the-arctic/ I put it out on the Internet last night and there are already 170 signatures. When they reach 1,000, I intend to send it to the leaders involved. Thanks to your encouragement, that our good intended petitioning for a cause does indeed make a difference, I decided to do it! Lots of love Victoria |

... Dear Claire Yes I will join in the prayers for Hungary. It seems that The Great Transition (well we do have The Great Recession!) is full of upheavals and uncertainties, from so many quarters. In these times it is easy to become despondent so I am warmed by Claire's call to prayer and Victoria's proactive caring in getting together a petition to halt the Arctic drilling. I understand we must trust the process we are going through and to keep our spirits strong, but it is difficult sometimes. What helps me is to remember being told that no matter what happens or what we do, to joyfully keep our connection to what unites us all and to hold the light. Sometimes that is my life-line and I am so thankful for those words as they can fuel right thoughts, words and action. I would like to offer prayers for all beings to find joy in their hearts and to feel their connection with Spirit. There is so much that can be accomplished through prayer. With love and gratitude Marta |
