The gift of wealth
A well known and very successful financial investor was speaking yesterday about his attitude to money. This man, a billionaire many times over, nonetheless has chosen to live in a modest suburban house and drive an ordinary family car bought several years ago when on special offer.
He is not mean with his money, hoarding it away like a modern-day Scrooge, rather, he lives according to his philosophy about wealth. In summary he believes that whatever money you have, you take what is needed to make yourself and your family comfortable, and the rest you give to those who are not so fortunate. Who needs ten houses, he asked? Why should the wealthy not be taxed in order to help the poor?
This man lives according to a simple but profound philosophy which is innately spiritual, though he might be surprised to have it described as such. It is so important to honour money, to see it as a gift from God - loan might be a better word - to help each of us live, learn and do our service, with loving intent.
